November 1st may be Todos Santos, and 2nd Día de los Muertos, but November 8th is, at it turns out, the Día de las Ñatitas, or Day of the Skulls, and likely one of the more surreal holidays there is anywhere. People dress up the skulls of their deceased loved ones, or skulls of some anonymous soul the have paid someone to excavate, give them drinks and cigarettes, shower them with flowers, and tote them around as if it were nothing. People also introduce their skulls to each other, and to the other skulls; some described how they slept with the skulls next to their bed, so their relatives could watch over them.
